Oregon Zoo is located in Portland, and contains 64-acre of land and more then 354 species of animals.
It's formal name is Washington Park Zoo, because it's inside the Washington Park. Opened in 1888 after a private animal collector donated his animals to the City of Portland.
Between the most rare species that we can admire in this zoo, there are :
- California condors
- Asian elephants
- African lions
The zoo also protect an extensive plant collection.
During the summer it is host to a concert series, and in the winter produces ZooLights, a holiday light show. The Oregon Zoo is Oregon's largest paid and arguably most popular attraction, with more than 1.6 million visitors in 2008 to 2009.
